CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston County Public Library brings storytime home to families and children through the Dial-A-Story line! You can listen to stories read aloud by Charleston County Public Library staff. All you need is access to a phone.
Through the Dial-A-Story program, staff record readings of a short story, poem, or excerpt of a favorite book. Patrons can use the call-in service to listen to the stories. New stories are posted monthly in four different categories: Birth-Kindergarten, 1st-5th grade, Young Adult, and Adult. Stories in Spanish in the category Birth-Kindergarten are available as well.
In partnership with the International African American Museum (IAAM), you may also listen to stories in a new series, Hidden Gems, to discover lesser-known narratives, artifacts, and contributions of African Americans throughout history. The stories are developed by IAAM's Youth Advisory Council alongside esteemed historians and storytellers. The Hidden Gems series is created with youth and teens in mind, new stories are available every other month.
