FOR GRADES 6-12.

Showcase your creativity for a chance to win a Visa gift card! The Art On Tracks competition invites teens to create artwork that showcases how trains play a crucial role in sustainable public transit. Get inspired at one of our art workshops or bring your vision to life on your own! 

Submit your artwork at any CCPL branch between April 1 and June 1. Winners will be announced during the gallery reception at the Main Library Auditorium on June 14 at 12 PM.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place: $100
  • 2nd Place: $50
  • 3rd Place: $25

Art Workshops (supplies provided):

  • Monday, April 7 at 4 PM: Dorchester Road Library
  • Thursday, April 24 at 4:30 PM: St. Paul’s Hollywood
  • Monday, May 5 at 3:30 PM: West Ashley Library
  • Thursday, May 15 at 3:30: Hurd/St. Andrews
  • Saturday, May 17 at 11 AM: Poe Library

What we’re looking for:

  • Scenes of Trains in Motion: Illustrating trains speeding through picturesque landscapes or bustling cities, showing their role in connecting places.
  • Sustainable Future Vision: Depicting futuristic trains, such as high-speed or eco-friendly models, symbolizing the future of public transit.
  • Communities and Trains: Art that shows how trains bring people together, improve access to opportunities, and promote inclusivity.
  • Environmental Impact: Pieces focusing on the environmental benefits of choosing trains over cars, such as reduced carbon footprints, less traffic congestion, and a reduction in parking lots and roads leading to an increase in natural spaces in cities.

Submission Guidelines:

  • How to Enter: Submit your artwork along with a brief description (200 words max) explaining your creative process and how your piece reflects the theme of trains as a great public transit option to any library location. Submissions must also include the artist's name, contact information, and title of the artwork. 
  • Mediums Accepted: Drawing, painting, and mixed media. Note: AI generated art will not be accepted.
  • Size/Format: Artwork must be submitted in a physical format and may be no larger than 16 x 16 in
  • Submissions Accepted at any CCPL branch beginning April 1, 2025 
  • Submission Deadline: June 1

Judging Criteria:

  • Creativity: How unique and original is the artwork in addressing the theme?
  • Message: Does the artwork effectively communicate the benefits of trains and public transit?
  • Visual Impact: Overall aesthetic quality, use of color, composition, and technical skill.
  • Relevance to the Theme: How well does the artwork reflect trains as a sustainable and essential mode of transportation?
