New York Times bestselling author Kwame Mbalia will headline a virtual book club hosted by Black Ink: A Charleston African American Book Festival and the Charleston Friends of the Library on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.  The author of the middle-grade novel "Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky" will be featured as the keynote speaker of the Black Ink Festival in January 2021. However, fans are getting a preview as the author will be discussing his work through the virtual book club discussion, hosted by the festival and the Charleston Friends of the Library.

In August, the Charleston Friends of the Library gave away almost 40 copies of the book to patrons of the Charleston County Public Library. Mbalia’s sequel Tristan Strong Destroys the World will be published in October by Rick Riordan Presents/Disney-Hyperion. He is a graduate of Howard University and currently resides in North Carolina with his wife and children.

The title may be checked out from the Charleston County Public Library by visiting their catalog and placing a hold. To join the virtual conversation, visit the Charleston Friends of the Library Facebook page
