March is Women's History Month, a celebration of women's contributions to history, culture and society. It's been observed annually in March since 1987 in the United States.
The 2025 Women’s History Month theme is “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.” According to the National Women's History Alliance, the theme celebrates the powerful influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership.
Women's History Month began as a weeklong celebration. The first National Women's History Week was established in 1980 with a proclamation from President Jimmy Carter. Seven years later Congress designated March as Women's History Month.
We invite you to use our library resources and visit branches to learn more about the contributions of women in history and check out displays.
