Charleston (South Carolina) -- Tour Guides Charleston (South Carolina) -- Tourism |
Scope and Content
The collection is comprised of photographs and local newspaper clippings regarding various elements of the Charleston, South Carolina tourism industry. The collection also includes correspondence, personal notes and tour guides, and brochures.
The photographs in the collection are mainly street scenes on the peninsula of Charleston; the bulk of which are images of buildings that are under construction and/or demolition.
Administrative/Biographical History
Charles R. Parker was a Charleston, South Carolina tour guide who owned the “Charlestonian Carriage Company”. Parker died in February of 2014; his obituary was published in the Post & Courier on 22 February 2014.
System of Arrangement
The folders of the collection are presumed to be Parker’s organization. All files were put in acid-free file folders but were otherwise left with the titles and organization that they were donated in. Loose newspaper clippings that were on two separate subjects: “Horse Diapers” for City of Charleston carriage tours and a news column “One Man’s Charleston” were put in new folders of the same name. These, along with a folder created for Parker’s business card, remain the only additional folder titles created during processing.
Acquisition
Collection previously held by Ruth Miller. Miller donated the materials to Charleston County Public Library/Charleston Archive in July 2018.
