Orientation and Training
Before using a studio space, patrons must be a Charleston County resident and complete an orientation overview of the facility. Creative Studio Orientation is approximately 30 – 45 minutes, but times may vary depending on specific areas of interest. Digital Studio Orientation is approximately 20 – 30 minutes, but times may vary depending on specific areas of interest.
The orientations are not a class. We will be presenting a variety of specialized programs from beginner to professional to help you develop your media arts skills. The orientation will cover the equipment in the studio; setup and breakdown; software and file storage, policies and procedures; and how to reserve a room. If a patron is not able to attend any of the scheduled orientations, they may make an appointment with a Creative Studio or Digital Studio staff member at [email protected] or [email protected] Although walk-in orientations are possible, it is best to schedule an appointment. Training is a prerequisite for using any available equipment in the studios. Patrons must receive training on the specific piece of equipment they wish to utilize.
Equipment training and room use can be scheduled at [email protected].
Digital studio training and room use can be scheduled at [email protected]
With patrons having varying degrees of comfort and prior familiarity with our production tools and/or software applications, we require a Creative Studio orientation to establish a baseline for determining how best to support an individual's studio needs.
Machine Use and Materials
Patrons are advised to contact the library at least 24 hours to confirm that a piece of equipment is available at the selected branch. We cannot guarantee that all equipment will be available at all times.
Patrons must supply their own consumable materials for use of the machines. The library does not supply or sell consumable materials to patrons. Examples of consumable materials include cardstock, vinyl, wood, leather, fabric, thread, bobbins, transfer paper, etc. Patrons should contact the Creative Studio if they are unsure what to bring with them.
