CCPL celebrates National Novel Writing Month with Programs

The Hurd/St. Andrews Library is hosting a series of programs in celebration of National Novel Writing Month 2023 (NaNoWriMo) for teens and adults. Every November, writers around the world work toward writing 50,000 words of a novel in 30 days. NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has an interest in writing a novel no matter your experience. Join us for an event with authors, learn new writing skills and join us while you work on your novel in designated write-in spaces throughout the month. All events are taking place at the Hurd/St. Andrews library located at 1735 N. Woodmere Dr. in Charleston.

Writing Workshops

October 19 | 6 p.m. Brainstorming 

Ever thought about becoming an author? We'll help you get started with a brainstorming session and introduction to the NaNoWriMo writing challenge. 

November 2 | 6 p.m. Storyboarding 

Want some help getting started on your story? Join us at for a writing workshop focused on plotting and outlining. Talk through your ideas and work with others to plan out your story and organize your plot.

November 15 | 6 p.m. Feeling Stuck?

Have you reached a point in your writing where you aren't sure what to do next? Join us for a writing workshop focused on beating writers block. Talk through your ideas and work with others to rework what you have and find a new approach. 

November 28 | 6 p.m. Editing

If you're following along with NaNoWriMo, you should be almost finished with the first draft of your novel! Now it's time to start thinking about editing. Join us for a writing workshop focused on structural editing. Talk through how you want your story to read and work with others to shape your manuscript into a proper novel.

December  2 | 10 a.m. Publishing 

You made it through NaNoWriMo! You've written 50,000 words (or have at least come close) and now it's time to start thinking about the next step, actually getting published! Join us for an nformation session on publishing and wrap-up event. Learn about the worlds of self-publishing and how to look for a traditional publisher and celebrate making it through the NaNoWriMo challenge!  

Poetry and Fiction Readings with Authors

November 9 | 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Please join authors Eugene Platt and Wesley Moore III at Hurd/ St. Andrews Library on Thursday, November 9th from 6 - 7:30pm for a night of selected readings.

Come Write-In 

Do you need a quiet place to write? Visit the library and get some work done in our designated write-in space. You will have access to a quiet workspace, hot drinks, and a librarian on standby to help with reference questions.
