CHARLESTON, S.C. - Teenagers looking for a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity are encouraged to apply for the Charleston County Public Library’s new Teen Volunteer program known as “VolunTeens”. Participants in the VolunTeen program will gain valuable work experience and skills while giving back to their community.
The VolunTeen program launches this fall at Main Library, Wando Mount Pleasant, Bees Ferry West Ashley, and the St. Paul's Hollywood branches.
“We’re excited to offer teens a way to give back to their community in a meaningful way, while also preparing them for their future academic and career endeavors,” said Melissa Tunstall, Teen System Coordinator.
VolunTeens will work with library staff on tasks such as working with younger students as homework helpers and other library tasks. In exchange they will get an opportunity to contribute to their community, a sense of accomplishment and self-worth, and Volunteer Service recognition. In addition, being a library volunteer looks great on college applications and resumes!
To become a teen volunteer, a volunteer application packet, which includes an application, waiver and reference form, must be completed. These applications are available upon request at the service desk in the Young Adult departments at the four participating branches, and online at /teenvolunteers. Prospective volunteers must be between 12 and 18 years old.
Teens interested in the program can call or visit one of the four participating locations for more information.
