CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Aquarium’s efforts to increase accessibility to all Charleston residents has taken a big step forward. The Aquarium is partnering with Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) to offer week-long memberships to CCPL card holders. These memberships will be available for checkout through any CCPL branch.

This partnership is part of the Aquarium’s goal to reduce barriers and maximize opportunities for all audiences to visit.

Membership manager, Kayla Halchak, stressed the importance of this initiative: “This collaboration supports our mission to make the Aquarium accessible to all and we are so happy to see it come to life. At the heart of everything we do, we strive to connect people to water, wildlife and wild places. Through this partnership, more people in our community can experience the Aquarium and learn about the many natural wonders of South Carolina.”

Ten family-level Aquarium memberships will be available through the libraries, providing free admission for up to two adults and eight children from the same household. Memberships can be checked out for up to one week. The process will be similar to checking out other library materials. If all memberships are currently in use, families may put their name on a waitlist.

CCPL is excited to add the Aquarium passes to its already extensive community offerings. “Partnerships like this one make these amazing community resources more accessible to families in Charleston County, connecting all residents with the educational benefits and fantastic experience that visiting the Aquarium provides,” said Devon Andrews, CCPL associate director of community engagement.
