Gullah Spirituals Concert

Ann Caldwell & the Magnolia Singers offer an entertaining glimpse into the roots of American music and the Gullah culture in A Gullah Lesson in Spirituals. This enriching program of a cappella spirituals infused with fine acoustic harmonies, percussion instruments, and storytelling is light and interactive fun for people of all ages. Participants, with guidance from the Magnolia Singers, are encouraged to try their hand at recreating the atmosphere of the Praise House by clapping, stomping their feet, and singing along using the Gullah language. Founded in 1998, the group has performed for Nobel Peace Prize winner Toni Morrison, Emmy-award winner Phylicia Rashad, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, nationally acclaimed visual artist Jonathan Green, actor Isaiah Washington, and many others.

Founded in 1988 by famed puppeteer Allie Scollon and her son John, CMT has established itself as a premiere children’s theatre in South Carolina with a mission to entertain and educate children and adults through the long-standing tradition and artistry of puppetry.
