CHARLESTON, S.C. - Help set a world record for the number of people reading or listening to the same book on one day. Join us at any of our locations on Thursday, Oct. 29 to participate in Jumpstart's Read for the Record. From our live storytime on Facebook to a special classroom-only edition, to after school readings, or anytime in between, join in reading this year's selection, “Evelyn Del Rey Is Moving Away” by Meg Medina.

Check out your own copy here.

Evelyn Del Rey is Daniela's best friend. They do everything together and even live in twin apartments across the street from each other: Daniela with her mami and hamster, and Evelyn with her mami, papi, and cat. But not after today--not after Evelyn moves away. Until then, the girls play amid the moving boxes until it's time to say goodbye, making promises to keep in touch, because they know that their friendship will always be special.

The tenderness of Meg Medina's beautifully written story about friendship and change is balanced by Sonia Sánchez's colorful and vibrant depictions of the girls' urban neighborhood.

Jumpstart’s 15th annual Read for the Record is a high-visibility annual fall campaign engaging millions of people across the country with the hope of increasing awareness about the critical importance and impact of early literacy; making high quality books accessible to children; and providing support to Jumpstart for Young Children’s work with early learners in underserved communities across the country.

Each year, Jumpstart selects a campaign book that fosters language and social-emotional development, honors the diversity in our world, has a strong narrative, and appeals to young children.
