CHARLESTON, S.C. - SEWE is taking over the library! Join Charleston County Public Library as we host a collection of Southeastern Wildlife Expo events at our branches during the three-day event focused on celebrating wildlife and nature through fine art, conservation education, sporting demonstrations, food, drink and the people who honor them all.
The largest event of its kind in the US, SEWE makes its home in Charleston, South Carolina and plays host to hundreds of artists and exhibitors, plus experts in wildlife and nature art – all eager to share their art and insights with more than 40,000 attendees.
From crafts to birds to turtles to a history lesson, we've partnered with SEWE to offer something interesting and fun for everyone!

WIN A CHANCE TO MEET JACK HANNA - Children ages 5-11 are invited to showcase their creativity and win a chance to meet famed wildlife expert, TV star, and conservationist Jack Hanna. To be entered to win, children must submit a poster, poem, or essay inspired by the environment, wildlife, or how kids can make a difference in their communities. Three winners will be chosen to go backstage to meet Jack Hanna at his show at the Gaillard Center on Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. Each winner also receives two 3-day general admission passes to SEWE weekend ($100 value). Entries must be received by Feb. 10, 2020 and may be submitted at any CCPL branch or via email to [email protected].

Calling all junior scientific investigators and budding environmentalists! Learn about climate change and work with a team to figure out what has happened to the missing sea turtle. The Rise and Fall of Charleston's Urban Vultures

Charleston once hosted numerous "wakes" of black vultures that followed the trail of decaying flesh from the city's abattoirs to the city market to the open air dumps. Join CCPL's historian, Dr. Nic Butler, for a look back at the once-common birds known as "Charleston eagles" and the changes in local culture that ended their reign over the city's skyline.

Bird Banding in the Maritime Forest
