CHARLESTON, S.C. - We are thrilled to announce that Charleston County Public Library has been nominated for an overwhelming 10 - seriously, 10! - City Paper Best of Charleston 2019 Awards! (We thought it was nine when the nominations were released on Valentine's Day, but we missed one!
Our local history podast, The Charleston Time Machine, is looking to repeat as Charleston's best podcast, while our popular weekly video series, Meet Your Library, that showcases the people and services of the library is hoping to snag a video award, and the 40,000-square-foot Wando Mount Pleasant Library is looking for recognition as the best building in Charleston (with all of those recording studios, maker spaces, skylights, and an oculus!). And it's great to see the Friends of the Library picking up a couple of nominations for all of their work throughout the year.
Let's run down the list and link to them to make it easy to vote for CCPL!
In the Culture, Arts, and Entertainment section:
- The Black Ink Festival is nominated for the Best Cultural Event.
- The Charleston Time Machine, CCPL historian Dr. Nic Butler's virtual time travel device focused on Charleston history, is up for its second Best Podcast nomination in as many years.
In the Politics, News, and the Media section:
- The library's Twitter feed, @ChasCoLibrary, is up for Best Local Twitter Feed.
- And the library's website, ccpl.org, is up for Best Local Website.
- If you've not seen the Meet Your Library weekly video serires produced at CCPL that showcases all the services and people that make CCPL a cornerstone of the community, now is the time to check it out! It's nominated for the Best Locally Produced Video Series.
In the Attractions and City Living section:
- Our newest branch in Mount Pleasant, the Wando Mount Pleasant Library, has been nominated as the Best Building.
- THAT Big Book Sale, the Charleston Friends of the Library's premiere fundraising event for library programs, is nominated for Best Fundraising Event.
- And CCPL is nominated for two more awards in the category, one for Best Place To Work (because obviously!) and Best Public Space (can't beat climate-controlled, wifi, and things to keep everyone entertained!).
In the Recreation, Health and Beauty section:
- We were nominated for the Best Place for Family Fun! And if you've ever been to Star Wars Reads Day, Hogwarts After Dark, trained to be a superhero, dyed your own indigo, worked in the creations studios, or produced your own music or videos in the digital studios, then you know CCPL specializes in Family Fun!
