Charleston, SC — Charleston County Public Library (CCPL), in partnership with The Charleston Center, FAVOR Lowcountry, and The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), is launching a powerful new program series this fall to shine a light on the dangers of opioid misuse.
Running from September through November, the In Plain Sight: A Fall Series on Addiction, Truth, and Recovery will offer free public programs designed to educate, engage, and inspire conversations about addiction and prevention in the Lowcountry community. The series will offer a wide range of opportunities for teens and adults to learn and connect, including interactive workshops, educational activities, and community discussions. A highlight will be a special talk and book signing with Barry Meier, former New York Times journalist and author of Pain Killer: A Wonder Drug’s Trail of Addiction and Death, which helped inspire the Netflix miniseries Painkiller.
By bringing together experts, community partners, and library resources, CCPL aims to create a safe, accessible space for residents to deepen their understanding of the opioid crisis and discover pathways to recovery and support.
