The Charleston County Public Library encourages the community to visit the library during National Library Week, April 23-29, to explore all the resources available in-person and online.
Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and ebooks. But there's so much more to the story of libraries.
Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, lectures, and more. The Charleston County Public Library offers a wide array of programs, classes and resources, including the following and more:

Kids Café: Free after-school snacks for 18 and under at select locations.

Free & Fresh: Free fruits and vegetables for all at two locations.

WISE Telehealth: Free health resources from a Community Health Worker and telehealth opportunities for women in rural areas.

Workforce Development Programs: Free events, workshops, one-on-one service and access to subscription databases.

Explore Passes: Free checkouts of passes to the Gibbes Museum, the S.C. Aquarium, Charleston County Parks, S.C. State Parks.

Storytime: Free early literacy programs for children under 4 and their caregivers.

Dial-A-Story: Free recorded short stories, poems and excerpts accessible by phone.

Charleston Time Machine: Podcast by our own historian, Dr. Nic, Butler, focused on Lowcountry and South Carolina history.

SC Room: Free access to historical reference material including books, documents and genealogy resources.

Social Services: Free access to programs throughout the year in partnership with community organizations. These include programs like our free tax assistance, rental assistance application support, distribution of COVID test kits, and more.

Community Rooms: Free access to booking meeting space for non-profit and community groups.

Programs and events: Free presentations and engagement opportunities including book talks, book clubs, culinary courses, performances, historical presentations, and much more.
Libraries play a critical role in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.
